Get The Most Out of Your Spray Tan

We want you to look your best tanned self!

We have written a few guidelines to ensure your tan is lasting as long as possible, and looks it's best while it's on.

Don't forget to ask your spray tan technician if you have any questions before you leave.

Before a Spray Tan:

  1. Exfoliate: Prep your skin by exfoliating well before your spray tan appointment. Use a gentle scrub or loofah to slough off any dead skin cells, paying attention to rough areas like elbows, knees, and ankles. This helps in achieving an even tan.

  2. Shave or Wax: If needed, shave or wax at least 24 hours before your spray tan session. This ensures that your pores have enough time to close and prevents any irritation or blotchiness.

  3. Avoid Perfumes, Deodorants, Moisturisers and Oils: On the day of your appointment, refrain from applying any perfumes, deodorants, oils, or lotions, as they can act as a barrier and interfere with the tanning solution's absorption.

  4. Wear Loose Clothing & Footwear: Opt for loose-fitting, dark-colored clothes to wear after your spray tan session. Tight clothes may rub against your skin and cause unevenness, while light-colored clothing could potentially stain.

  5. If you are planning on tanning your face, ensure it is clean and no makeup is applied.

  6. Remove all jewellery that could be in the way of tanning surfaces.

  7. If you have had any brow tinting done within 48 hours of your tanning appointment, advise your spray tan technician and come with a heavy but neat layer of moisturiser on top of them to prevent changing colour (mixing developers).

After a Spray Tan:

  1. Avoid Water and Sweat: After your spray tan, avoid any activities that make you sweat or involve water for at least 3 hours or as recommended by your spray tan technician. This includes exercising, swimming, or taking long showers. Water can affect the development of your tan.

  2. Avoid Tight Clothing: Opt for loose clothing for the next few hours after your spray tan to prevent any rubbing against the skin, which can lead to streaks or unevenness.

  3. Moisturize: After the recommended waiting period (specified by your spray tan technician), start moisturizing your skin regularly. Use a hydrating lotion or a tan-extending moisturizer to help maintain your tan's longevity.

Washing Off and Care:

  1. Rinse Off: When the recommended waiting period is over, take a lukewarm shower to rinse off the excess tanning solution. Just shower long enough that you have rinsed every surface. Avoid using any scrubs or harsh soaps, as they can cause premature fading.

  2. Pat Dry, Don't Rub: After showering, pat dry your skin gently with a towel instead of rubbing. Rubbing can potentially remove your spray tan.

  3. Moisturize Daily: To maintain your spray tan, moisturize your skin regularly. Apply a hydrating lotion or tan-extending moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and prevent your tan from fading too quickly.

  4. Avoid Exfoliation: During the lifespan of your spray tan, avoid using exfoliating scrubs or products, as they can strip away the color more rapidly. Stick to gentle cleansers and avoid abrasive tools.

  5. Choose Shower Products Wisely: Opt for gentle, sulfate-free shower products to maintain your tan for longer. Harsh chemicals can cause your tan to fade quickly.

Remember that spray tans typically last around 5-7 days, depending on your skin type and how well you care for it. Following these guidelines will help you achieve and maintain a beautiful, even spray tan for as long as possible.

When you're ready for your next one, use a tan removing product or an exfoliating glove to remove excess product.
